A lot of us like to tour using riding apps, for a variety of reasons, but for me, Rever is the best of the bunch. Well, that is, if you travel in the US. One of the biggest features, offroad planning, is not available in Canada. Having said that, Rever still has much to offer.

Ride Planning, and route management is one of its main features. Not only can you create your route by pre-planning it, Rever will record your exact route, and will also enable you to download GPX files and routes. Rever can make use of Butler Maps to track your rides and share them with friends. You can plan your route by specifying the type of road surface you want to ride on, which is really valuable for those of us riding bikes that have no real off-road capability. You can also build your route on your desktop and then view those routes by synching them to your mobile devices.
Another really valuable feature is that you can track your rides even offline. The app uses your GPS signal to save your offline route and runs in airplane mode for the most remote rides. You can add photos, and custom waypoints as well. The animated 3D flyover feature renders a 15 or 30 second rendering of your ride and will show images you’ve shot along the route and display them on your map.

For Pro users, those who pay to subscribe there is a lot of additional functionality, including weather and layers. There are a number of social features, which you may find interesting, including LiveRide, which allows you to see your buddies locations in real time. You need a cellular connection to make use of it, however.
Two features that I like are GoPro connectivity, which enables your GoPro to record your ride based on a specific pair of weighpoints you put into the app. You can record turn-by-turn instructions for up to 25 weighpoints. Rever is planning to expand this in the future.

Without listing all the Pro subscription pluses, one may be the most valuable, and that is LiveRide. This application within the Rever app, enables you to connect to a list of friends who can first, follow you on your rides, and, if an accident occurs be informed as to the exact location of the accident. Once this has been turned on, the rider has 30 seconds to turn off the emergency notification, otherwise it will send an emergency notification to those on the list.
