While There’s Time

As we age, it’s sometimes hard to reminisce. It can feel melancholic, and depressing as we face our limitations. But one thing is for certain. Get on the bike, pull in the clutch, push down on the shifter, and suddenly, I’m 30 years younger.

Enjoy the ride, feel the breeze, smell the air, hear the engine, and sense the vibration through the pegs. It’s better than any drug I know.

So ride like you always have, savor the day, let your mind remember.

I am still young, deep down inside…I am…

When I Ride

When I ride there’s no pain I can detect

Dare I could fly through the wind and storm

There’s no fear to contain nor to inspect

It disappears like the dew of morn

I may limp as I saunter out today

But inside I’m an athlete again

Always devoted to take on the fray

I am as I always was, back then

Once I could soar, like a bird on the wing

Oer hills and valleys, quick as a fly

Now a mechanical engine will sing

And I’m like a dog nose to the sky

Dare I close my eyes, feel the breeze and rain

It’s all I want to remember, time

How I was in my youth, without the pain

When running or riding was so sublime

No worries, and ageless, I was so strong

Grabbing the world and wringing it dry

I was its master and did so belong

I could just do, and never just try

So when you see an old man with a limp

Remember him always, as just a boy

For still in his heart, he isn’t a gimp

Leave him alone to play with his toy

But the smile on his face tells him once more

That time hasn’t stolen his laughter

And on he will go, once more out the door

To face what might come, in the hereafter

Whatever your age, whatever your pain, ride like a man-obsessed, through the wind and the rain. You have miles to go before you die, so look to the sky, and just fly.
