Middleweight Magic

I haven’t been much of an Adventure Bike fan, being somewhat vertically challenged. But after a serious leg injury, I find it even more of a challenge to consider an Adventure bike. Having said that, a friend of mine just purchased a Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro. When spring finally arrives here in western Canada, I’m hoping to put in a few miles on the machine in a swap ride.

Triumph’s mid-weight Tiger 900 has added another stablemate for 2024, which now includes the Tiger 900 GT, GT Pro, and Rally Pro. Each step up provides an increase in performance and spec.

This year, the three-cylinder engine has received an upgrade, with new engine components that provide an additional 13% increase in power, up to 106.5 hp with 66.38 lb-ft of torque. The bike’s distinctive engine note is a raucous as ever, thankfully.

The bike has a new 7” TFT screen, new seat and a damped handlebar mounting system for more long-distance comfort. A really unique safety feature, emergency deceleration warning system, is now part of the package which activates the hazard lights when braking rapidly. It conveniently disengages when you begin moving as well.

With a new USB-C cockpit charger and Triumph Bluetooth connectivity as standard on all models, the new seat is flatter and roomier. Heated seats on both Pro Models are also included. On the GT, seat height can be as low as 31.4”, which, as stated earlier is a fantastic addition for us short-asses. The new design looks more aggressive and the paint schemes are really quite nice.

  • Optimized cornering ABS and traction control with IMU
  • Up to six riding modes including Road, Rain, Sport, and Off-Road, plus Rider Configurable for the GT Pro and Rally Pro, and Off-Road Pro for the Rally Pro only
  • Triumph Shift Assist (GT Pro & Rally Pro)
  • Heated grips and seats (GT Pro & Rally Pro)
  • Illuminated switches
  • Tire pressure monitoring system (GT Pro & Rally Pro)
  • Brembo Stylema® Monobloc brakes
  • Model-specific premium specification suspension tuned for maximum road & off-road capability
    • The GT features Marzocchi 1.77” (45mm) USD fully adjustable cartridge forks, rear suspension unit with manually adjustable preload and rebound damping and 7.08” (180mm) fork travel & 6.7” (170mm) rear wheel travel
    • The GT Pro features Marzocchi 1.77” (45mm) USD fully adjustable cartridge forks, rear suspension unit with electronically adjustable preload and rebound damping and 7.08” (180mm) fork travel & 6.7” (170mm) rear wheel travel
    • The Rally Pro benefits from Showa 1.77” (45mm) USD fully adjustable cartridge forks with manual preload, rebound and compression damping and a rear suspension unit with fully adjustable manual preload and rebound damping, 9.45” (240mm) fork travel & 9.05” (230mm) rear wheel travel
  • Lightweight modular frame
  • Adjustable screen & .79” (20mm) adjustable seat height
  • 5.28-gal (20 liter) fuel tank

The GT is has a Marzocci suspension with adjustable compression and rebound damping, with 7.08” of fork travel up front, and 6/7” rear allowing one to tackle any off-road challenge.

The Rally Pro has a Showa suspension with a generous 9.45” of travel (front) and 9.05” travel (rear). The GT and GT Pro have 19” front wheels and a 17” rear (cast alloy), while the Rally Pro has a tubeless spoked 21” front wheel.

With cornering ABS, traction control, ride by wire throttle and four riding modes these are seriously capable machines. The Pro models are also equipped with the Triumph Shift Assist System that allows clutch less shifts up and down the gearbox. Heated grip and seats plus TPMS are also standard on both Pro Models.

There is no doubt that I’ll be taking one of these for a ride as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

Prices in Canada are;

Tiger GT $16,995 CAD

Tiger GT Pro $19,295 CAD

Tiger Rally Pro $20,195 CAD
