Ending Social Media – Is the Answer to a Rational Future

The Deep Fake of Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X and TruthSocial

There is one way to create a resistance movement that Trump, Musk, Zuckerberg or their attendant maggots can’t effect.

Simply close your Facebook, Instagram, X and Threads accounts. You’ll actually strengthen the resistance against the lies, threats, misinformation and disinformation of trump and his mindless minions as their “echo chambers” fall on deaf ears, — not to mention that it will impact and diminish advertising revenues.

Without an antagonist, social media loses its purpose. If you can’t be affected by lies, misinformation, disinformation and their defence, — lies actually become meaningless. In essence they lose any power that they once held.

Ignore the right, entirely. Simply continue to tell the truth on sites that validate the facts and that kick off and ban forever any person or parties that lie or misrepresent the truth. Truth isn’t objective. Truth is verifiable. Just as a court that is truly impartial demands proof to reach conclusions, then removing all content on social media that ‘objectifies’ the truth, and fails to provide verification, proof, validation and corroboration, – so too should all social media that wants to retain the users of its platform.

For example, Donald J. Trump is a felon, convicted, based on the rules that govern America and upheld by the courts of the United States.

By enabling ‘truth sayers’, whose role is to target and remove all posts that are found to be false, social media sites that are truthful and demand facts to be corroborated and validated, will thrive. Those that fail to, should be kicked and banned. While bots and AI can be used by those who want to damage truthful social media, AI can also be employed to identify and remove all posts that are in fact, lies, misrepresentations and disinformation.

One of the best ways to discern truth from falsehoods is to teach critical thinking skills that;

1. Question Sources – validate, question, test and validate reference material – use Snopes and Politifact to check that what is stated, is in fact true.
2. Identify bias – understand the perspective from which information is presented. Use a jaundiced eye to interpret assertions. Like in financial transactions – if it sounds unlikely or too one sided, it probably is.
3. Evaluate Evidence – if it’s anecdotal, discount it. Require scientific proof, confirm statistics, be aware of logical fallacies and manipulative language.
4. Lateral Reading – get into the habit of opening new tabs to investigate claims and sources. Don’t accept at face value, assertions made on the basis of a single article or finding.
5. Be a skeptic, be logical, be scientific and employ a healthy skepticism. Check all sources for validity.
6. Lastly, don’t be afraid to ‘call out’ lies and those who intentionally mislead.

As a former college instructor, I used my experience and my internal bullshit meter to question any student whose performance did not stand up to my observations of normative behaviour. Skepticism is of great value in that it will assist those who are genuine and send alarm bells ringing on those who are liars, plagiarists or incompetents.

The problems today are many in relation to using facts, as many people are either unwilling or incapable of determining the truth. Ignorance has become so pervasive and group think combined with excessive in-group pressure to ignore lies so endemic as to form the basis for some supporters, for example MAGA Minions. Their only concern and focus is to ‘say anything’ as long as it produces a positive result or outcome, either politically, socially or in terms of access to power.

Trump and his cohort of liars have successfully stolen power in the United States by doing just this.

What does it mean for the future?

It likely means that, like the man himself, a continued belief in lies, the illustration and application of hate, vengeance, retribution, ignorance and arrogance will result in chaos, violence, societal warfare and if unchecked, civil strife leading to civil war in whatever the once United States actually transitions into. It won’t be democracy, It will likely be a kleptocracy, autocracy and theocracy of extremism involving evangelical Christians.

For the rest of us, unwilling to accept a demagogic and nihilist America, we will actively seek and focus on a different future. One that is democratic, honourable, honest, and eminently truthful and empathic.

The beginning of that enterprise starts with shutting down lies, disinformation, and the misinformation that emanates from social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, and the greatest purveyor of lies, TruthSocial.

Be well, be educated, be safe and please be circumspect and employ logic and the scientific methodology to ascertain what is true and what isn’t.
