NATO – “Is Over”

Retired American General Barry McCaffrey stated today that, “after 76 years, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, known as NATO, is over”.

McCaffrey, speaking on MSNBC stated, “Unfortunately, my own view is the damage is done,” he said of Trump’s failures in foreign policy. “It’s now irrevocable. There’s not a shred of rational argument among European powers to trust the United States.”

I stated the same yesterday. Why would NATO have any faith in America. America cannot be trusted under Trump, as trust in relation to trump’s vocabulary doesn’t even exist.

He continued, “I think that’s over,” he confessed. “So, I think right now there’s a scramble among European countries to include the Finns and the Swedes and others who are borderline states, the Baltic states, Poland, etc., that they think they’re under the gun.”

Fortunately, he suggested, “Britain and France, both have nuclear capabilities. Otherwise how else could you believe America in any event?”

When asked what it means for the world, McCaffrey stated, “Well, I think it increases the likelihood of war,” he said.

Canada, as a member of NATO, will be strengthening its ties to NATO and to increasing the strength and capabilities of the Canadian Armed Forces.

It would not surprise me if Canada chooses to incorporate nuclear weapons into its future arsenal, as Canada can no longer depend on America, for anything.

My firm belief is that Canada will now not just increase its force structure and size, but will send a greater number of CAF personnel and their equipment to Europe. Canada now has two battalions in Lithuania. I feel strongly that Canada will return to its former position of manning a brigade of 5500 personnel along with Canadian ships in the Black Sea and a squadron of aircraft in Lithuania as well.

If a settlement occurs in Ukraine, and British and French forces are placed in Ukraine as Peace Makers, I also think that once this force is in place, Canada will also commit to a force for Ukraine.

America is now the threat to peace in Europe. By standing by Russia, trump has proven that America is no longer an ally. In fact, most NATO members at this point want America to leave NATO, for it will be easier to ensure that European populations appreciate how dire their present circumstances are, and the need for a new European Defence Force.

Europe’s military strength is approximately 650,000 personnel. If half of that number become the European Defence Force, and each nation based on population is required to contribute to the force, Europe will be prepared for Russian aggression.

If Canada commits and returns to NATO, then a force structure, somewhere in the realm of 11,000 personnel will be both reasonable and doable for Canada’s military as its strength and capability grows.

What Europe now needs, is for the military industrial complex to shift into high gear and to produce the weaponry and munitions for a protracted war in Europe, which now seems almost inevitable.

America will end up isolated and with little influence in the years to come. Trump has assured that America won’t have allies whenever its next military adventure occurs.

We, collectively, outside America, don’t trust you. And we certainly don’t respect you either. Your recent actions have assured that whatever the U.S. faces in the future, it will do so, alone.
