This has to be the most myopic and insulting response I have ever seen by a totally ignorant President and his clown prince sub-vice-president. Zelensky’s abilities have never been in question. He has led Ukraine exceptionally, through an existential fight for Ukraine and its people. Through the loss of 450,000 Ukrainian lives, and a million injured or killed by an illegal and unwarranted invasion of his country.
On the other hand, can we question the motives of an American administration? An administration that attempted to extort Ukraine’s mineral resources in order to manipulate Ukraine’s need for help?
And what might an agreement have afforded Ukraine? Protection? America sending troops into Ukraine with instructions to engage if Russia attacked?
Not on your life.
What it demonstrated was how two dictators, Trump and Putin, had reached an agreement than enable both to profit from the destruction of Ukraine.
It was like me, as a Fire Chief, standing in front of a burning building with the owner, stating, “I can put it out for a price.”
It was unconscionable, arrogant, ignorant and disrespectful of a President of a nation desperate for assistance fighting for survival against a dictator and sociopath to suggest he ‘should be more thankful’, while a nation protected by an ocean sits in judgement, suggesting that they should ‘give up their resources’ in order to stave off temporary invasion by a dictator.
But most importantly, what does this signal to Europe and NATO?
That America cannot be trusted.
America is not an honest broker, attempting to find the most rational outcome for a nation in dire need. No. It is a shakedown by America.
Did Europe, who contributed 60% of the funds to support Ukraine suggest, “How about you give us 60% of Ukraine’s mineral resources?”
Of course not.
That’s America. That’s trump. That’s the thief that America has become under Trump and the GOP.
The Unequivocal Message for Europe?
Go it alone. America cannot be trusted, nor should it be.
Ask America to leave Europe. Europe can’t trust, nor does it want America to be part of any ‘solution’.
The world has seen America’s solution played out in real time.
On one side of Zelensky, is a Makarov pointed at his head. On the other a Colt 45, both lethal, both intentional.
Mr. Zelensky: Meet with Europe’s leaders and NATO, without America to find a resolution. That likely entails telling both Trump and Putin to fuck off.
As for Canadians? We will stand by Ukraine and support it in any way possible until Ukraine is free and retains its sovereignty, including ALL of its land.
There is no other rational response in a world with two dictators, one Russian, one American.
