Is 5% of GDP Reasonable to Remain a Sovereign Country?
Of course it is. And it’s time for Canada to isolate itself from America. That means in every way. Canada is an amazing place in which to live. From our people to our landscape to our belief in democracy and in helping others, — Canada is a wonderful place.
Would I or any of my compatriots choose to be American?
Simply No, and that was before Trump. The litmus test, as it were, was that even when democracy ‘appeared’ to be the case in America, few of us wanted what America offered.
We have seen the ignorance, the lack of education, rationality, reason and logic.
Canadians pride themselves on being well educated, on being astute. We are a good judge of character, and conversely, the lack of it.
What we see happening in the United States is anathema to Canadians.
We don’t want a dictator running our country. We don’t want hate speech, pathological lies, racism, misogyny or the 1% to run our country and control our politics.
We are caring, intelligent, kind, empathic and truthful.
But one thing we are not is naive, or tolerant to lies, greed and thievery.
Today, that is all we see and hear, coming from America.
Threats, hate speech, lies and disinformation.
That is what America seemingly stands for these days.
So Canada cannot sit idly by and be extorted by America.
We love our sovereignty too much. We don’t want to be a fascist state, like America.
We don’t want to arrest, deport or imprison people, simply because they sought a better life in Canada from the horrors that war, and American intervention has created in much of the world.
So we will arm ourselves. And we will steel ourselves.
If Canada has to spend 110 billion dollars a year on defence, to assist Ukraine and insure Canada’s sovereignty, so be it.
Even I, a retired Fire Chief, with finite resources would welcome Canada stepping up its defence budget to that level. If it meant an addition 15% in taxes — so be it.
France Offers Nuclear Umbrella
Today France suggested that its nuclear umbrella should be enlarged and strengthened, enabling other EU states to become nuclear powers in their own right.
Canada should immediately begin discussions with France and the U.K. to enter the nuclear weapons club by developing nuclear weapons to be employed on Canada’s upcoming SSN AIP cruise capable submarines.
Canada cannot trust America, and it has a sovereign obligation to protect the citizens of Canada from the nuclear threat imposed by Russia, and any future state that threatens Canadian sovereignty.
Canada should move ahead with a nuclear weapons program, purely for defensive retaliatory use if required.
We have entered a new era for Canada, where our friends are no longer our friends.
