When You Have a Dog, You’re Never Alone
When you have a dog, your seldom alone,
On a walk, in the car, even the phone
Oh sure inconvenient at times, thats true
But happily so, cause you’re never blue
Until the day comes that sadness arrives
You’ve never known loneliness, till it thrives
And the time that you spend, lost in your thoughts
Are better by far when your dog comforts
He can feel all your sadness deep inside
We pretend that its not, but still we hide
But there’s no fooling canines, that’s for sure
They know what you need, and lickings the cure
The same’s true when your happy, they don’t care why
They just bounce off the couch, and off they fly
To savour the moment that made you cheer
They are the solace and gone is the fear
Life is just better when one has a pet
You’re never alone, they’re always in debt
So they pay you in love, for the life lived
Cuddles and kisses, they always forgive
Even when you are the party at fault
They always show love, and never insult
They don’t harbour grudges, always a kiss
It’s there in your heart, it’s something you’ll miss
I can tell you because it’s always the same
I have loved every dog I’ve known and by name
So give them a good life, love them to death
Cause sure as you’re living you’ll be bereft
When the morning arrives, no whine at the door
You place down a bowl, forgetting, unsure
And then you remember, how much you cared
The dog that you owned, the life that you shared
And tears from the memories still you can feel
Sitting down on the floor, still so ideal
A stroke of his coat, his breath on your hand
And love for the boy, I still understand
Cause dogs are for living, love that endures
Remember them always, memory lures
You back to the moment, you brought them home
It was never the same, never alone
