Not As Bad As The “H——-“ Guy

This morning, Smercomish had a commentary about Larry David’s piece on the former German H—- Guy. He suggested that it was wrong to equate the “T——” Guy with the “H——” Guy, in that the former has a unique position in history as the ‘most’ heinous, murderous, and inhuman figure in world history.

I get the point, however, Larry David’s satire makes a valid point.

Consider that the current moment in time is the equivalent of 1937. What followed?

Do we wait until the real horrors are visited upon all of us before we react?

I think not.

T— guy is already arresting and deporting people in the U.S.

T—guy is already arresting Judges in the U.S. who don’t agree with his hat for immigrants.

T—guy is already attempting to stifle and disenfranchise institutions, like Harvard and Columbia, including virtually all institutions of higher learning.

T—Guy is in the process of setting the stage for autocratic rule, eliminating dissent.

Yes, it’s important to make the distinction that he is, as yet, not the H—– Guy. But that in no way affords comfort to those of us rational enough to see all the symptoms of intolerance, radicalism, hate and acts that he provokes or sponsors in order to damage free speech, dissent and the voice of reason.

I’m sure that the H—- Guy ‘appeared’ to be reasonable, before he came to power. He didn’t just attract those who were angry and irrational, he had some form of appeal and charisma that attracted millions of G—– people who felt disenfranchised by the first world war as well.

My question is this.

What happens if T—Guy is successful in dismantling all of the checks and balances in democracy that are designed to hold dictators and kleptocrats in control?

If the only tools that people have to enforce change are dismantled, so that rebellion or revolution or civil disobedience becomes the only avenue?

What then?

What if we are simply four years ahead of the curve where autocracy comes home to roost in America?

I’m Canadian. We have our own lesser-versions of the T— Guy, who appears reasonable, but offers no answers, other than to invoke fear and hate in his supporters.

He hasn’t turned the page, yet…so to speak.

If, and that is a big if, he were elected, — then there is the risk of watching the same process of fear mongoring and irrationality take hold here in Canada as well.

My point?

Labels matter.

But so does intent, and we should not be enamoured by statements conveying contrary views to what we see exhibitied with our own eyes.

Intolerance is intolerance. Hate is hate. Disenfranchising people from the ability to act, or to vote, is an act of intolerance, control and hate.

I don’t want to wait to find out if Mr. P——– truly becomes the T—- Guy.

If he walks like a T—- Supporter, acts like a T—– Supporter, and Talks like a T—– Guy Supporter, the odds are, — he is one.

T—- Guy, not as bad as the H—- Guy?

How do we know?

Personally, I don’t want to give him the time to find out.

Canada needs to get away, now.

I don’t want to be sailing on the S.S. St Louis, expecting safe harbor in a world that has welcomed another H—— Look Alike.

We are done.

We should get out, stay out, and build a robust military deterrent, — now.

I don’t want to pretend we are on the good ship lollypop, instead of actually being on a Voyage of the Damned.
