When democracy dies
It won’t make a sound
It will quietly lie
No more to be found
It’s not like a beast
That will wail through the night
While its enemies feast
On its bones in plain sight
Democracy needs
For people to care
But when no one heeds
It can disappear, where?
Why didn’t we notice?
Why didn’t we try?
It wasn’t just POTUS
Who fed all the lies
It was people whose rage
At losing their power
Made them less sage
in fear they did cower
Their anger was stoked
By those on the right
Their motives were cloaked
Ignored, yet in sight
They hated the other
The one not like them
They needed to smother
In God, yes, amen
Their rage fed by fuel
Years past by design
They need to be cruel
We all, will be fine
They say we are racists
How can this be true
Just look at our faces?
We’re red, white and blue
But America knows
There’s a flaw deep inside
It’s still in the throes
It’s where history hides
Hate has a face
You can wrap in a flag
But you dare not embrace
Or it’s still just a rag
So, when did it die?
We’re not sure to be true
We’d like to comply
But democracy’s through
Instead we like power
And greed to be sure
It grows like a flower
It’s clear and it’s pure
So stop your complaining
You all let it occur
There’s no point explaining
But it’s over for sure
We’ve now got our way
But something is missing
Could democracy stay?
All we’re hearing is hissing
The scorpions and snakes
Cling to the houses
Where lawmakers quake
And no truth espouses
Democracy died
You did it yourselves
It wasn’t implied
It didn’t need stealth
Instead, it was gored
By those filled with hate
For years it was stored
So, it surely twas fate
Now, Fascism rules
All truth put asunder
The country is rife
For our need now to plunder
It was stupid of you
To trust in our lies
What did you construe
When democracy dies?
