Back in May, 2025, Scientific American published an article by Andrea Thompson that specifically cited that the “staff cuts at the National Weather Service made by the Trump Administration are a danger to public safety as tornadoes, hurricanes, and heat loom this summer.”
Well that prophecy has turned out to be true.
Trump, an uneducated, arrogant, and scientifically ignorant man by anyone’s standards, irrationally and irresponsibly drastically cut funding for the NWS or National Weather Service,
“even though they provide an overall benefit of $100 billion to the economy. This is approximately 10 times what the service costs to run, according to an American Meteorological Society white paper.
Recent improvements to hurricane forecasts alone have saves up to $5 billion for each hurricane that hit the U.S. since 2007, according to a report by the National Bureau of Economic Research, a non-partisan, nonprofit economic research organization. In comparison, the NWS’s entire budget for 2024 was less than $1.4 billion dollars.”
It is the height of ignorance, arrogance and stupidity by Trump and the GOP. They are now partially, if not wholly responsible for the deaths of Americans due to inadequate forecasting and a timely ability by both NOAA and the NWS to warn Americans.
“NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, is a $12 billion dollar agency trapped in a $5-and-a-half billion budget,” said Craig McLean, then acting chief scientist of NOAA, in a testimony to Congress three years ago.
Wile under Biden “the NWS was already 5 percent below the staffing level the service considered adequate,” Trump’s cuts at fifty two offices has created disastrous conditions that mean that these offices are “critically understaffed…with some branches down by more than 40%.”
And why?
So that Trump, and the GOP can give massive tax cuts to billionaires.
Billionaires get rich, while Americans, refused adequate protection, die.
It’s unconscionable, irresponsible, stupid and arrogant. But that has become the mantra for the GOP, “Stupid is as the GOP Does.”
I hope those who supported these cuts and the “Big Idiotic Bill” can sleep at night. Maybe all of them collectively should go to the site of the Guadalupe River Flood where so many died last night and explain why their cuts were justified.
Good luck with that, you morons.
The GOP and Trump haven’t a clue what they’re doing in this administration, but it’s obvious that their ignorance is costing Americans in taxes, property losses, insurance costs and the lives of Americans.
Shame on you Trump. Shame on you.
Resign.
