Canada Needs a Fighter Completely External to American control.

Canada is in the process of procuring new fighter aircraft for the Canadian Armed Forces. It has inked an agreement to buy 16 F-35’s from Lockheed in the U.S.
Much has been made about Canada’s military operating two different aircraft platforms, however there are many countries that do so without issue.
For Canada, openly seeking closer integration with the E.U., and as a member of NATO with troops on the ground in Lithuania, it may well make sense to add to Canada’s commitment in Europe by stationing the 16 F-35 aircraft in Lithuania as well.
The United States can no longer be trusted by Canada in any regard. Such is the relationship that now exists due to Trump’s openly offensive statements to annex Canada as the 51st U.S. state.
The sheer arrogance of Trump, combined with his lack of intellect, suggests that Prime Minister Mark Carney’s apparent plan in response is to dump Canada’s remaining consideration (as no commitment exists) to buy the balance of the originally planned aircraft.
The intended replacement aircraft, the Saab JAS 39 Gripen E/F would serve Canada’s interests admirably. The intended role of these additional fighters is not to enter an enemies airspace, but to patrol Canada’s airspace and interdict any enemy aircraft that may well threaten Canada’s sovereignty, whether in the air, at sea or on the ground.
Based on the capabilities of the Gripen, which are well known, Canada should immediately sign an agreement to purchase, particularly in light of the ability to have the aircraft built in Canada, serviced in Canada, and produced with Rolls Royce engines in lieu of those produced in the U.S.
It’s time to break the previous procurement mold.
Canada should no longer support the United States, particularly when it comes to Canada’s defence and security.
You don’t threaten annexation and then expect business-as-usual.
We are unequivocally done with America.
