Or Is It All A Self-Interested Game of Zero-Sum Politics To You?
Right now, Canada’s sovereignty and its economic survival is at stake. Canadians, more than ever before need to swallow their differences and act as one in order to improve Canadian trade and the GDP bottom line for Canada.
Not simply Manitoba for Manitoba, not Ontario for Ontario, nor Alberta for Albertans, –and certainly not solely benefits for Quebec.
And yet, here we are. Quebec wants, — once again, to play the self-interest “where is our BIG piece of the pie” card.
It isn’t the first time.
Equalization payments favour Quebec. Quebec’s immigration policies are internally managed. Quebec men, don’t even want to support the defence of Canada, never mind take part in conscription should it become necessary.
So, once again, Quebec is willing to stick a giant steel rod into the nation’s economic gears in order to coerce the rest of Canada to give it ‘special consideration.’
No pipelines to Eastern Canada, eh? What’s in it for us?
Really? At a time where Canada needs to develop its resources and improve the financial wherewithal for the entire country?
And yet, Quebec, which it has to be said has a significant interest in attracting investment in mining, aluminum production, aviation, etc., etc., is unwilling to support a pipeline because “we’re not getting enough out of it”?
The problem is that Quebec has always been of the opinion that it could extort the rest of Canada.
Well might I suggest that those days are wearing a bit effing thin Quebec.
Quebec’s productivity is abysmal and yet it whines at every turn.
Well, much of Canada is beginning to get fed up with a province, that while whining, actually contains and supports a federal party that is dedicated to leaving Canada.
Either act like Canadians, or get the hell out.
But understand that if you do go, there will be no trade, no economic partnership, no use of the Canadian dollar, repayment of the equalization payments and acceptance of Quebec’s share of the national debt as the price for your leaving.
Then, if you want to leave, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Quebec needs to decide if it’s a real part of Canada, or simply a fair weather symbiotic organism that obviously speaks another language.
