The Federal Government’s Restricted and Prohibited Gun Buy Back Program
I’m a Canadian who owns a carbine that I bought legally from a gun shop in Canada, two weeks before Canada announced that they would be banning carbines for sale. I don’t hunt, I simply belong to a gun club and shoot for marksmanship and to compete with other marksmen.
The weapons that the Canadian government are stating must be turned in for destruction, or I hope at least sent to Ukraine, are not weapons that kill people in Canada. The very vast majority of these weapons are owned by responsible members of the community who have never committed a crime, and faithfully adhere to the storage, transportation and use of the weapons they own, yet the Federal Government, which I voted for and support in every other sense, are now treating me like a criminal, stating that the gun must be turned over to the government for destruction, or it will be a crime to retain it.
The following facts illustrate why it is unfair and irresponsible of this government:

The federal government has not told anyone if they will reimburse me for the carbine, which with ammunition I bought cost me about $1500.00.

Rumours suggest that that the government is going to provide somewhere around $600, which is about half of what I paid, plus $250.00 worth of ammunition, now useless.
That isn’t ‘fair’ compensation, – that’s thievery.
Of course I will comply, but with Canada being under the threat of invasion from our once ally, and the fact that the Federal Government should be spending those resources on getting illegal handguns off the streets of our major cities that almost all are illegally entering Canada from the U.S. , it would only seem rational that rather than taking away weapons from legal and responsible Canadian gun owners, guns flooding across the border should be the target.
However what it will likely mean is that like most others who voted for Liberals, I will never do so again.
And if I must provide the government with my carbine, then I can only assume that ALL handguns will have to be turned in as well.
First, it’s Trump’s asinine tariffs, and then it’s our own government ripping off Canadian marksmen and hunters.
