Today I watched Marco Rubio illustrate how arrogant and ignorance will likely lead to the next pandemic. Rubio actually said the following this morning,
“We aren’t going to allow Ebola into the United States.”
Really?
Apparently Mr. Rubio possesses God-like skills and his clairvoyance is truly supernatural.
Marco Rubio couldn’t tell you if the man sitting next to him had Ebola, never mind stop its incursion into America.
Dismantling Global Health Governance
The US withdrawal from the WHO and subsequent cessation of U.S. funding have severely disrupted global public health governance. As a result, the WHO faces major budget shortfalls and operational cutbacks, fundamentally altering how the world responds to infectious diseases and manages cross-border health crises.
These are the systemic consequences for the U.S. leaving WHO:
- Critical funding deficits: The U.S historically provided up to $500 million annually, representing roughly 18% of the WHO’s overall budget. The sudden removal of this funding—including halted dues and redirected foreign aid—has caused drastic workforce reductions.
- Decimation of Disease-Specific Programs: The WHO’s emergency programs and specific treatment initiative for HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria are heavily reliant on external funding. The withdrawal has crippled these efforts, leaving many low and middle-income nations scrambling to secure necessary medications and vaccines.
- The loss of Early Warning Systems: The WHO relies on the cross-border sharing of vital epidemiological data to prevent localized agencies (like the CDC and NIH) collaborating or sharing data, the global system is less prepared to track emerging viruses, avian influenza, and other health threats.
Geopolitical and Strategic Implications
- Diminished American influence: By stepping away from the WHO, the U.S. loses its central leadership role in shaping global health policy and setting international medical standards.
- Shifting Power Dynamics: The gap left by Washington’s retreat from multilateralism provides an opportunity for other nations, such as the EU and China, to increase their influence and financial presence within the UN health agency. This not only could, but will, shift the organization’s priorities away from longstanding U.S. strategic interests.

The WHO, alongside academic institutions like the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, has warned that the withdrawal ultimately makes both the U.S. and the international community far more vulnerable to future pandemics and health crises.
Watching the current U.S. administration undermine not only the health of its own citizens, in order to provide tax breaks for the rich, and to appropriate more money for the war, while depriving millions of starving people, children and women basic food, is unconscionable.
But that is America, today.
Hubris and Ignorance is Not an Answer America
So, it would be only fitting, based on Marco Rubio’s depth of understanding and obvious clairvoyance that Ebola should show up in the population of Florida, maybe even among the workforce at Mar a Lago.
Rather than a disease like Covid that killed a paltry 7,000,000 people globally, Ebola’s mortality is somewhere around 50% on a global scale, so it’s encouraging to hear Marco Rubio expound on his great wealth of knowledge as to the virulence of the disease and how such an epidemic might play out in the United States.
We would likely need to rename it the ‘American Hubris Virus’. But one should not fear, for with people like RFK, Dr. Oz and Marco Rubio in charge of actions and decisions, Americans might well be better hands with AllState.
Prayer meetings will be of immense help I’m sure.
