On May 29th, Luke James wrote an article in “Tom’s Hardware”, a popular tech industry publication. It was entitled, “Independent cyber audit finds zero malware or backdoors in DJI drones — U.S. firm’s hardware analysis challenges FCC ban amid ongoing $1.56 billion legal battle.
After intensively testing DJI’s drone, the same firm that inspects TikTok’s U.S. platform found zero critical, high or medium-risk issues a across 5 months of testing.
Every time the U.S. government attempts to damage, degrade, coerce or threaten another foreign nations products or technology will nothing more than aspersions, lies, innuendo and a lack of any actual research, proof or rationale for doing so, it not only damages the credibility of the United States, it sends a clear signal to the world that America is no longer the leader in the field being attacked.
Like virtually everything this administration in the United States has done to date, it illustrates its arrogance, fear and general incompetence.
“DJI has published the results of an independent security assessment by U.S. cybersecurity firm OnDefend, which tested the DJI Air 3S consumer drone and Matrice 4E enterprise drone over 5 months and reports zero critical, high or medium-risk findings.
The claim was that these DJI drone could transmit data outside the U.S.
It turned out, of course, that this is simply a patent lie, one that the world should realize by now is as American as apple-pie.
“OnDefend found no evidence of data being transmitted outside the U.S., no hidden backdoors, and no successful attempts to hack or tamper with either aircraft.”
DJI has pursued a Ninth Circuit lawsuit against the FCC over the agency’s decision last December to ban all new foreign-made drones from receiving U.S. equipment authorization, a move DJI claims will cost it $1.56 billion in 2026.
OnDefend American team includes former U.S. military and government cybersecurity professionals.
They tested both droned across software, hardware, firmware and radio frequency, including man-in-the-middle attack simulations and physical teardowns. They bought the drones independently from retail sources without DJI’s knowledge or involvement in the selection process.
It is patently obvious that the actions taken by the FCC at the behest of the Trump administration are simply meant to attempt to disrupt and attack the reputation of DJI as the world’s foremost drone manufacturer.
This is the second attempt by the U.S. government to infer that Chinese technology is untrustworthy and subversive in its intent.
No proof, no data, no actual incident or action has ever shown that DJI is anything other than the best drone manufacturer on the planet.
Once again, America’s protectionism and isolationist trade practices will have backfired, as anyone with any actual experience and utilization of DJI products can attest to their excellence and utility across a spectrum of capabilities, unlike anything manufactured in the United States.
As for those of us who utilize their products, our best wishes for winning the impending lawsuit and the reinstatement of DJI’s drones and technology in use as the best product on the market, irrespective of America’s protectionist policies and the harm they willfully do.

The actions taken by the FCC and the current U.S. administration are simply meant to damage DJI and its market in the United States.
As such, this is a purely illegal action meant to create a protectionist wall around America for those technologies where it cannot compete, and knows it to be fact.
Fortunately, for those of us outside the U.S., we have seen no effect on our market, access or utilization of DJI products, which continue to offer excellent technology, utility and price for their products in our markets.
We want to offer our support to DJI to continue manufacturing what we, the users of DJI products, believe is the best technology and equipment available today in the consumer and pro-user photography, mapping, agricultural, security and safety environment.
