One of the transitions in motorcycling that I had not given much consideration to until now, was what is happening about 3-wheel motorcycles. While most of us continue our journeys on 2 wheels, there is another chapter in the motorcycling community being written, quietly in the background, and one company is picking up the inordinate share of those converting to 3 wheels.

Can-Am, and its parent company, BRP, recently unveiled their 2024 lineup, including its new electric motorcycle progress. Can-Am’s core business is the Can-Am Spyder and Can-Am RT models. New improvements to 2024 designs include an all-new 10.25-inch color touchscreen with Apple CarPlay. This is of particular value to all iPhone user who can now use CarPlay and all its compatible apps.

Additional enhancements include:

  • LED headlights.
  • New grills, colors and wheels, (depending on the model).

The Can-am Ryker rally model will now feature Hyper Silver wheels.

What many will not know, is that Can-Am has seen a “20% increase in its market share over the last three years in North America, with retail sales more than doubling in the last four years.”

The good news for Can-Am is that 61% of recent Can-Am owners are new to the 3-wheel category, and 40% are new to the On-Highway segment (2-wheel or 3-wheel).

BRP is also committed to offering electric options in all its existing product lines. These will roll out over the next few years, with the last being introduced in 2027.

BRP has also built a new plant (to open in 2025) in Queretaro, Mexico. It will be interesting to see how BRP furthers its progress in the market in the coming years.

It is also interesting to note that Harley Davidson lost 16.9% of its market share in 2023, while BRP has seen an increase of 20%. Things to watch in the future.
