A More Sedate 2-Wheel Ride

E-biking When Motorcycling isn’t Doable

I love motorcycling, and I also love cycling as I was an avid road racing cyclist in my youth. While still great fun, and healthy, I’ve found that where I live on the prairie of western Canada, wind can make a fun day, a pain. I also was hoping that my wife would ride on my Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx, but that wasn’t to be, equally due to my fear of ever hurting her in an accident. I can accept whatever happens to me, but would never be able to accept I was responsible for her being seriously hurt.

Allowing myself to slow down and smell the roses, while interacting with my better half will be fun. It also provides me time to travel by motorcycle and camp, explore and climb by ensuring that my relationship with her doing something else that’s 2-wheel related is healthy and appreciated.

Part of this mental response is due to having had two friends and their wives killed on their motorcycles. So, in-lieu of motorcycling together, this week we bought e-bikes. They are collapsible, have great range (96 miles) and will do that distance at a speed of 32 mph. It gives us the opportunity to experience two wheels at reduced risk, yet cover large distances and still get some exercise.

In order to have a great relationship, it requires sharing time and interests together. We are also getting a new pup shortly and I’m buying a back pack that my dog can wear and which I can strap to my back. This summer looks to be fun. I’ll provide a blog about our two-wheel travels this year. I hope your summer is filled with friendship, joy and remains safe.

The other part of having an off-road capable e-bike is that once I get to where I’m going in the mountains, I can continue on the e-bike, as I wouldn’t be able to with my Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx. It does mean having someone drop off the e-bike when I get there, but it saves me walking excessive distances with a leg filled with plates and screws.

Part of my motorcycle camping kit includes a 20 amp solar charger which will allow me to recharge the ebike’s battery once I get where I’m going. This effectively doubles the distance I can cover in the mountains on trails. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Ciao…
