Tomorrow morning, Trump intends on imposing a 25% tariff on Canadian exports to the U.S.
America is not Canada’s ally anymore.
America seeks to do damage to the Canadian economy and to act as an extortionist. And there is no other word but criminal extortion for what Trump wants to do.
We should have expected this from a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, pathological liar, five time bankrupt and sociopathic kleptocrat.
However, the response to extortion should be to find America’s Achilles heel, and slice it wide open. That’s the only response that makes sense. And here’s why.
Trump’s lies about fentanyl and border insecurity are total bullshit when it comes to Canada, and anyone who knows the facts and isn’t a delusional moron, unlike trump himself, knows that a minuscule amount of fentanyl has been proven to come from Canada, estimated at 1% of the flow from Mexico.
As for border security, out of a total of 11.7 million illegal immigrants that came into the U.S. in 2024, 21,000 came from Canada by the end of September, — and since then Canada has tightened both its border patrols, student visas and vacationer visas as well from all points south of the U.S..
So let’s talk facts, not Trumps lies. Twenty One Thousand illegal immigrants in a year is less than .2% or less than one fifth of 1% of America’s illegal immigration, yet Canada is being treated the same as Mexico? That is asinine, totally ignorant and stupid. Trump is doing this simply in order to extort a deal on Canadian goods.
And one has to ask the obvious question? Where is the U.S. Border Patrols responsibility in curbing illegal immigration? If America were not spending 95% of its border security on Mexico, how more efficient might the Border Patrol be on the Canadian Border?
Bullshit America….Total bullshit.
And don’t forget America. Canada is the largest buyer of American goods.
Here is what Canada should do in response.
Cut off all electricity, oil and gas deliveries to the U.S. simultaneously. Seventeen U.S. States do more business with Canada than anywhere else on earth. Seven American states are dependent on Canadian electrical generation and the provision of power.
Apply a 25% tariff on all American goods coming to Canada.
Nationalize all oil and gas production, distribution, refining and sale of petroleum products in Canada.
Canada should build heavy crude super refineries in Canada of sufficient size to refine all 5.2 million barrels of oil produced each day.
Canada should immediately seek new trade agreements with Europe, Japan, Vietnam, Korea, and with China, to offer a discounted and secure supply of all petroleum products.
Canada should seek membership in the European Union and provide guarantees to Europe of oil and gas supplies to make up for that which was lost when Russia invaded Ukraine.
Canada should increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP or 62.5 Billion Canadian dollars, and create a ‘hard’ border with the United States, requiring defined date visas and passports for all Americans wishing to come to Canada.
Canada should reinstate conscription in Canada for all 19 years olds who would be required to spend one year in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Canada should rebuild its military and increase its force structure to 140,000. It should build, (or buy from either Germany, Sweden, France or the U.K.) a fleet of 12-16 under ice SSK AIP submarines, armed with long-range cruise missile technology, mine laying capability and heavy torpedoes.
The Canadian Airforce should cancel all military equipment purchases from the United States and buy either French or Swedish Generation 6 fighter bombers.
Canada should build two deep water ports on the Northwest Passage, capable of servicing and maintaining a brigade in the north specialized in winter warfare. The bases in the north should also house two squadrons of fighter bombers armed with long-range advanced anti-ship missile technology. Canada should purchase two Swedish AWACS aircraft based in the North of Canada, and Canada should expedite the construction and procurement oof the CSC River Class ships, increasing the total to 20 ships.
Canada should build a sovereign wealth fund, similar to Norway that, as it increases in wealth, is use to eliminate Canada’s National Debt and then to offset taxes.
While this would create a recession in Canada, absolutely, Canadians in the long-term would be in a much better position in relation to trade, security and protection of sovereignty.
America is no longer a friend or ally to Canada.
It should be treated as such.
America seeks to extort wealth from its former allies, and in turn seeks protectionism and isolation.
I say, give America its wish, isolation, and enable Canada to build a much stronger relationship with its true Allies, — the EU and the far eastern democracies.
Oh, and one more aside, — don’t be so sure that America has no permanent friends or enemies, at least until America understands what friendship actually means.
One would think that the fact that half of America hates the other half, it would make sense to further exacerbate that issue. Civil wars can be disconcerting.
