Recently, the Harvard Business Review looked at the changes that suggest that American collapse is not just a perception, but reality.
The Atlantic publication did the same.
Why the preoccupation with collapse?
Unless you’ve been living in a cave for a year without any news, it would appear that the complete reversal of support by Trump and his ilk has led, not just Canadians, but the world at large to conclude that America is no longer a democracy but an autocracy.
Whether or not there is another election in the United States is open for debate. America openly supports demagogues, dictators, kleptocracies and oligarchs, the 1% of the richest people on earth to the complete detriment of the poor and the middle class.
Trump has turned America into a myopic, self-serving, self-interested and untrustworthy nation, breaking with both the international rules based order that has existed for 80 years, while abrogating every agreement it has signed with its partners, allies or friends.
The question is no longer, do we, outside the United States, trust it? Now the question is how fast and how completely can we leave America’s sphere of influence.
Canada has much to offer the world. That’s obvious, as it consistently rates as one of, if not the best, place to live on earth. We do not intend on becoming subservient to the U.S. nor being annexed by the U.S.
Canada will support democratic institutions and governments who follow the precepts of the United Nations, NATO, and international norms of behaviour. We do not support dictators, autocrats, liars, thieves or convicted criminals as leaders.
So, Canada will, without equivocation do two important things in the coming months and years.
First, it will seek new partnerships and trade diversification, and second, it will rapidly militarize and harden its relationship with the United States. As a honourable member of NATO, and one known for its history of support, Canada will remain, as long as NATO is necessary.
The reality is that Europe and the U.K. are moving equally fast to militarize and create a new defence force for Europe. Canada will seek involvement in this force and in entering the E.U.
Canada will likely be willing to adopt the Euro as the International Global Currency and move away from the American Dollar.
Canada’s trade will also include China, Japan and Korea as it steadfastly moves away from the U.S.
The U.S. is headed for a massive debt problem, which will force it to face new realities in terms of shrinking its debt, which cannot be tariffed into submission.
Spending a trillion dollars on defence, while America’s infrastructure falls apart and its debt continues to increase will either lead to deflation or collapse.
The only question is how fast Trump’s actions will push America into stagflation, or fiscal collapse.
My bet is sooner rather than later, and the ramifications for the average American will be shocking, which will transition directly into anger and actions against the Republicans and Trump.
Personally, I’ll celebrate that day.
