A reporter from CNN, Zach Wolf, suggested that Canada is ‘hurt’ by America’s treatment of it. Actually, we’re not hurt. We expected as much from a President who is a sociopath.
Canadians are not, and never were naive.
What Canada really wants, is to economically divest itself of America’s influence on it, and to do so quickly. We are not in doubt as to the reasons why Trump speaks continuously about annexing Canada. And, we know exactly what we must do in order to secure our own future.
All of the choices that Canada needs to make, today, and tomorrow have been effected by a President who only knows the art of the steal. The CUSMA agreement, proposed by Trump and at the time stated, ”As the greatest trade agreement, ever”, he ignored and subsequently broke international trade law by suggesting that 30 pounds of fentanyl, representing less than .5% of America’s known fentanyl problem, combined with immigration, which was less than 1% of the known immigration problem was a just rationalization for implementing a trade war.
Bullshit, Mr. President. It wasn’t and isn’t.
Economic disparity in the size of the two economies meant that trump’s advisors, themselves thieves, suggested that Trump could extort an agreement from Canada, and that it would have a negligible impact on America’s economic fortunes. Well, you can try, but Canadians are stubborn and steadfast bastards Mr. President.
We will put up with your antics for as long as necessary, and no more. In the interim we will build new markets for our products and diversity to such an extent, that extortion will be impossible, in fact, it will do as much damage to America, as it does and is doing, here in Canada.
As for spending on the military? Canadians will gladly pay 5% of GDP for sovereignty and independence from American influence. In fact, you may have started a process that will have profound consequences for America’s geopolitical and economic position in the world, as the eyes of the world are on America.
And, they don’t like what they see.
So rather than stick with a nation that knows no loyalty, no trust, no honour and no truth, countries and unions like Japan, Korea, Taiwan, the U.K. and the E.U. will simultaneously act in a way similar to what Canada is now committed to doing. Building a new trade and defence coalition that may ultimately result in the U.S. dollar being replaced by the Euro as the international currency reserve of choice.
What will this mean for America? It will have to deal with its massive 42 trillion dollar debt, and that will mean some massive changes in America. First, America’s trillion dollar defence spending will have to be cut appreciably. Tariffs won’t actually have any real impact on raising dollars, but they will preclude other nations from trading with America.
For example, Canada’s defence spending, will now move to Europe. And while it is but a fraction of America’s defence spending, Canada will, if 5% is required, spend 110 billion on defence. That will be enough to double the size of the Canadian Armed Forces, and enough to ensure that there will not be any security needs from America.
To do so, Canada will commit to conscription. A requisite need when faced with extortion and threats of annexation.
The only nation that is threatening Canada, is the United States. Canada will seek to align itself with the U.K. and the E.U. Already, Canada is in final talks with South Korea to produce submarines with ballistic vertical launch capabilities, 12 of them. And Canada will likely seek a nuclear deterrent second strike capability by buying its nuclear ballistic missiles from France or England, rather than attempting to build a domestic nuclear weapons program.
America will find itself without leverage against other nations, as a multipolar world replaces America’s superpower status. Europe, Japan, and China will become the engines of geopolitical power as they stand up to both the United States and Russia, neither of whom it would seem can be trusted.
Canada will go one step further in its realignment. It will seek to replace American trade entirely with that of the U.K., E.U., Japan, Korea, and yes, China. Canada needs reputable trade partners, not extortionists in waiting. Joining the EU and committing an enlarged Canadian military to assist Europe in Ukraine and Europe’s defence is a given as Canada will likely increase its armed forces to about 200,000 personnel and station a substantively larger force than now exists in Lithuania, there.
America, through trump, has initiated a policy that for Canadians was long overdue, and that was to leave America’s sphere of influence and set a new chapter in Canada’s trade and geopolitical future. One without America. One, the Canada builds for itself, and one secure in the knowledge that its partners are friends and allies, not back-stabbers and dishonest men without the ability or want to do any more than steal from their partners.
That may be how trump built his empire, but it will also be the way it collapses.
America is clearly on that path.
