Good news American farmers. Trump is going to help you out by making fertilizer for your farms 25% more expensive.
According to CTV News;
“Trump’s renewed focus on agriculture comes as many U.S. farmers struggle to sell their crops or plan for the future amid an ongoing trade war with China, as well as continued trade uncertainty with U.S. allies (?) including Canada.
Canada is the world’s largest producer of potash, and more than 95% of Canadian potash is exported, according to Fertilizer Canada, which also notes that “well over half” of all exported Canadian fertilizer goes to American farms.
Veronica Nigh, senior economist at the U.S.-based Fertilizer Institute stated;
“As all Canadians know, and most Americans I think at this point, the U.S. is incredibly reliant on Canada for our potash needs which (contains) one of the three critical nutrients every plant needs…It will clearly mean additional costs for U.S. farmers…the U.S. isn’t currently a major potash producer, and outside of Canada, there are few traditional American allies who export it.”
Seeing as America doesn’t see Canada as an ally in any event, Canada will start shipping potash to China.
Trump doesn’t appear to want to restart trade talks anytime soon, so I suppose American farmers will have to pay the additional $80 to $100 per short ton for fertilizer in the future.
I’m sure glad Donald is looking out for rural America.
Now that Americans are going to have to harvest all fruits and vegetables themselves, it looks like there won’t be any problem with Americans finding a job. There should be lots of work available seeing as they’ve deported almost all those workers who harvested fruits and vegetables or worked in dairies across the U.S.
Yessirree… restoring American workers to their rightful place as farm hands earning minimum wage is exactly where rural Americans want to be.
