Really? If the Straight of Hormuz actually opens it will because Iran chooses to do so, not the US.
Iran can mine the Straight every night simply through the use of its Ghadir Submarines, specifically designed for such a possibility. In addition, the navigable channel is not 21 miles across, it’s two (2) miles wide. Not hard to hit a target travelling at nine or ten knots, laden with up to 2 million barrels of oil, eh Donald you moronic master of arrogance and ignorance.
Caitlin Talmadge of the Brookings Institute stated on March 19th in a commentary entitled, “Why Iran’s disruption of the Straight of Hormuz matters”,
“For many decades, Iran has worked to develop asymmetric naval capabilities for precisely this sort of scenario. This include an arsenal of probably 5,000 to 6,000 mines of different types and varying levels of sophistication, along with numerous platforms that could deliver those mines…the concern is that Iran has potentially hundreds of smaller vessels: midget submarines, fast attack aircraft, even civilian boats of a certain type that could be used to lay small number of mines, and that potentially are very hated to find because they’re in small ports all along the coast. Some of them may be in extensive tunnel networks Iran built along the coast that hides them until the right time when they enter the water. Iran could conduct a significant mine-laying campaign in the Strait. Just the possibility of this — or at least the inability of the US to confirm there are no mines— is a deterrent for tanker traffic.”
And Russia or China can keep providing mines, more sophisticated than anything Iran currently has to ensure that the straight is too dangerous to traverse, virtually forever if they wish.

What this points to, what this illuminates, clearly is Trump’s ignorance and stupidity, along with those like the childish God of War he appointed to be able to listen and to comprehend how incapable and desperate the US position is today.
These asinine actions have almost guaranteed that Iran will now proceed, full tilt to create or buy nuclear weapons.
It also clearly indicates that unless the US capitulates, that Iran can keep the price of oil and gas extremely high for as long as it wants.
