Another American Attempt to Coerce Canada Prior to CUSMA
Eldridge Colby and Pete Hoekstra, the U.S. undersecretary of defence and the U.S. Ambassador to Canada are pausing a long-standing military board, claiming “Canada has failed to make credible progress on its defence commitments.”
Good. Let’s make the break complete and tell America we want no part of NORAD as well.
America has been actively alienating Canada prior to CUSMA and long before, as the US goals of hemispheric hegemony butt up against the reality that America is neither an ally or friend.
The ‘benefits’ from the U.S. now appear to be nothing but liabilities. Canada should stay the course and diversify its trade for the foreseeable future, to a point where America’s ability to coerce Canada is eliminated.
Bu decreasing U.S. influence to the point where less than 25% of exports go to the U.S. will effectively mean America will run out of leverage.
Canada’s independence from the U.S. militarily, economically and politically should be the objective as the United States cannot be trusted.
Period.
Colby’s statement where the U.S. “can no longer avoid the gaps between rhetoric and reality’ is exactly how Canada should feel in response.
Canada is now spending over 2% of GDP per year on defence, which will rise to 5% in total defence spending by 2035. The existing government of Mark Carney seeks independence from the U.S. in any event, as the U.S. is now run by a fascist right-wing Evangelical Christian cult, led by a sociopath.
Colby’s statements are indicative of a nation that has to date done nothing but threaten, coerce and extort its former allies and once friends.
Geography aside, Canada will do all it can to ensure that by 2035 the only thing Canada will share with the United States is a continent.
America’s Myopic Future
The United States by 2035, will at its present rate, have no allies, other than Israel and Russia.
The Five Eyes will soon become the one jaundiced, and the other myopic eye, as the EU, the U.K., Australia and NZ have all had enough of America’s hubris, arrogance and overt offensive acts against its former neighbours and allies.
Canada is already a member of the 14 eyes (European Group) and has signed defensive agreements with the ROK and Japan that includes the sharing of data and surveillance information of Russian actions.
Canada’s installation of the most advanced radar (OTHRS JORN) from Australia will allow Canada to see ships, aircraft, missiles and ground movements within Russia 3000 kilometres north of Canada’s Arctic Territory.
Once combined leaves NORAD, and with Canada’s impending purchase of SAAB’s GoldenEye AWACs aircraft and 72 additional SAAB Gripen fighters, Canada will no longer require American aircraft to overfly Canadian sovereign territory.
It’s time for Canada to make a clear, unequivocal and complete break with the U.S. strategically. Canada joining the EU’s defence, along with other nations have formed a coalition of the willing against Russia is where Canada’s future industrial defence policy and membership should be concentrated.
Canada’s procurement of 12 new AIP ballistic missile submarines from the ROK, combined with it building 12 River Class Guided Missile Destroyers along with the new Canadian Corvette program will enable Canada to completely look after its own defence requirements, requiring no input or access by the United States of America.
China’s rapid rise both economically and militarily means that the U.S. can no longer expect to have its own way globally. The Pacific is now essentially dominated by China, and its soft-power influence is growing at a rate that outstrips even America’s allies leaving America’s sphere of influence.
The U.S. is no longer ‘the superpower’. In fact, a multipolar world is what the U.S. faces going forward. It’s seeming willingness to retrench and seek ‘hemispheric hegemony’ will not be successful, nor will it succeed in its attempt to dictate to China, China’s actions.
American power is waning. Its bases globally will soon be non-existent and its force projection a mere shell of itself. America has proven to the world by its actions, and not even the insane rantings of its sociopathic leader, that it cannot, and will not be trusted.
Canada’s new reality is the creation of a new Global Trade Organization that will not include the U.S. The EU, the U.K., Canada, Australia, NZ, Japan and the ROK are on a course to a new global trade and defence pact that will be in control of 60% of the world’s GDP, and with it, America’s influence is destined to shrink appreciably and continuously.
America keeps talking about its “Allies”. America should look around and determine exactly who that might be, for its no longer the formerly named nations.
We’ve had enough of America’s good intentions.
