North America’s Big Three Destined For Extinction Outside the U.S.

It is only a matter of time, and to be honest, it’s doubtful that the U.S. can do anything about it going forward.

America has surrendered the EV world to China.

A continued emphasis on fossil fuels for American manufacturers is essentially capitulation globally. Chinese EV’s now dominate the world, and their growth has been near exponential.

Growth would be even higher were the globes citizens free to purchase Chinese vehicles. Unfortunately most are not, because of protectionism, which places massive tariffs and taxes on Chinese EV’s entering western countries.

Governments can act as a protectionist force against EV’s, just as has been the case in the United States and Canada, but for other nations without massive reserves of fossil fuels, the continued use of fossil fuels in vehicles is quickly coming to an end.

And the irrational and predatory actions of the US against Iran, is ensuring that the gulf states, will move away from America and its interests, as they are the ones paying the price for America’s lunacy currently.

If ever there was proof of the irrationality of continued ICE vehicles, it has been U.S. actions in the gulf for the last several months. Attempting to milk every last dime from fossil fuels has meant that the big three, including governments that support them have surrendered the EV market to China, and there is no going back.

Electrification for Canada will undoubtedly overwhelm any loyalty that exists in relation to even hybrid designs. To fuel a conventional vehicle today illustrates just one element of the problem, and I’ll use my own vehicle as an example.

It’s an ICE equipped SUV that averages about 24 mpg, combined. Fortunately I do not have to travel for work, as I’m retired and drive a motorcycle that provides me with more than 60 mpg on the highway.

To fuel this vehicle, I used to pay approximately $45.00 per tank when gas was at 1.00 a litre. Today, I fuelled up my vehicle from near empty. It cost me almost $107.00 CDN.

Were I working, and my commute average approximately 50 kilometres per day, without any additional mileage for recreation or essential after commute travel, I would be driving 1000 kilometres per month, just to get to work.

The cost based on a year of driving is just shy of $2000,00 CDN for fuel, whereas for a BYD Dolphin EV the cost would be approximately $520.00 CDN. And, maintenance is typically 40 to 50% cheaper overall.

Canada’s electrification strategy for the future means that the cost to charge an EV per kilowatt hour will drop substantively, from what is already the lowest cost per capita globally.

There is very little doubt that EV’s, in Canada, will very quickly dominate the market, even though currently, sales have fallen. Now that Chinese vehicles are entering the Canadian market and the price of EV’s either mirrors or will be cheaper than hybrid or ICE equipped vehicles, Canada’s EV market will undoubtedly see a major uptick in the future.

BYD alone, one of more than 80 major EV manufacturers in China, now sells more EV’s globally than Tesla and all Japanese manufacturers combined.

New even more efficient battery designs and super-fast charging of 80% capacity in five minutes, is now coming by 2027 from BYD alone.

Given the opportunity to switch to EV’s, the Canadian market is headed for a major shift that will see the market for U.S. big three carmakers collapse by 2028.

Canada’s environmental strategy in the long-term will see Canada meet its environmental CO2 emissions targets. In the short term, it will increase until the entire electrification process including wind, solar, hydroelectric and nuclear, in concert with doubling the electrification grid in Canada occurs.

These are long-term, but highly viable.

By contrast, countries like the U.S. will be the equivalent of light years behind Chinese products, and will take over the global vehicular market in ten years, without doubt.

U.S. targets for emission controls and reduction of greenhouse gases, now seem like a pipe dream. A pipe filled with fossil fuel. The EPA has essentially been disbanded and the United States is actively attacking fossil fuel producing nations to ensure a ready supply of CO2, Methane, Sulphur Dioxide and particulate emissions for the future.

China, by contrast, will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 65% by 2030, and be carbon neutral by 2060. So much for America denigrating China in relation to emissions and technological advances that promote a cleaner, healthier atmosphere for the planet.

All this while having a population that is four times larger than that of America.

In the last year, my family purchased five new vehicles, two electric, one hybrid and two ICE vehicles. None were American.

I can tell you unequivocally, that our future vehicles will not be ICE or hybrid, and there is a very high probability that they will be Chinese EV’s.
