A fundamental shift is afoot in Europe and Canada. One that was brought about by abuses by the United States and the U.S. government, the likes of which will create the conditions for an almost complete severance of data, its storage, manipulation, aggregation and utility in the United States in the future.
American search engines are being dropped. American software is being boycotted. Data Centres for Canada and Europe are being built in Canada and the EU. And programs like Microsoft Office, are being replaced with both European and Canadian built sovereign systems.
These changes are foundational, and the implications for the U.S. highly significant. The more that America attempts to use U.S. software as a tool against foreign nations, businesses and corporations, the more quickly these systems are being dropped by Europe and Canada.
For example, the search engine ‘Google’ has been replaced with a French alternative, ‘Quant’ in all government institutions and related businesses. Digital sovereignty and the protection of user’s data was the reason for the shift. Canada is doing the same. Euro-Office, a sovereign alternative to Microsoft Office has been released, with full compatibility with Microsoft’s file formats and is hosted on European infrastructure by Ionas.
It is open source, without licensing fees. Visio will replace both Microsoft alternatives. Microsoft was found to be sharing proprietary data, and the EU is moving away from the usage of Microsoft software immediately.
By no longer using American software, built on the utilization of American law, Europe and Canada will no longer need American consent for information of data.
Canada is creating its own system and has released its first AI strategy that will target 60% of all Canadian businesses. Canada intends to build a multi-national sovereign technology alliance pooling research, talent and computing power.
Canada has already built the platform the Cohere-Aleph Alpha merger is designed to replace Silicon Valley.
The Shift In Energy
Right now, America is draining its national petroleum reserves in order to keep prices relatively low, and to help assure the EU that America has a plan for the Straits of Hormuz, both of which seem almost laughable at this point.
America will hit a wall in terms of crude shortages within four weeks, and is shipping oil to Europe to forestall that inevitability.
Canada sends 3.9 million barrels of oil to the U.S. every day, which is 63% of U.S. total crude imports.
But — Canada is now building new pipelines to send crude oil, not to the U.S. but to Asia to meet requirements for future contracts that have already been made.
America’s shortfall will become acute because Canadian crude is ‘requisite’ as American refineries must refine heavy crude, as they do not possess the infrastructure to do otherwise.
This ‘structural’ problem is not easily bridged as U.S. refineries both in the mid-west and on the Gulf coast are affected.
These pricing ‘issues’ will soon become supply deficits that price by itself cannot resolve.
America is likely in for the biggest energy shock that it has faced since the 1973 oil embargo, as Canada reducing shipments by 20% will automatically lead to gas and diesel rationing in the U.S.
All this, has been caused by an administration whose arrogance, insults and intentional breaking of International Law and the trade agreements that were based upon them, has led Canada to seek new relationships with nations that it can trust.
Let’s be patently clear. That is not America.
Canada is building new infrastructure right now to redirect its oil assets to Asia. Another huge pipeline to Vancouver, and as many as three new LNG lines to tidewater from BC and Alberta. Crude sales to China have risen by 240% since Trump’s trade war began in 2025.
Europe is interested in receiving its future LNG from Canada because as it states, “It comes from a stable democratic country.”
American refineries can either pay market value for Canadian crude (no more WCS discounts) or find its oil somewhere else.
Every contract that Canada signs is a permanent reduction in shipments to the United States, not just in oil, but in relation to aluminum as well, as Canada has already inked 20 new contracts with Asia and with Europe.
Canada will not, like the U.S., use its energy for coercion. Canada will simply sell its products, energy, metals, ore and materials of all kinds to stable, trusted partners who do not use coercion, extortion or threats to ensure their supply.
The U.S. brought this on itself. It cannot be trusted, and Canada will no longer accept irrational risk from a nation that acts like the enemy, rather than a partner.
Trump unequivocally stated;
“We don’t need anything from Canada.”
Well, the facts say otherwise, but shortfalls will make that reality readily apparent in very short order.
Were Canada a ship, America could see it sailing over the horizon.
America will achieve its goal of isolation through its protectionism, arrogance and threats.
So be it.
Canada Strong. Canada Proud.
